Frame straightening: when needed

Physical signs of a bent frame
Uneven gaps between doors, hood, and trunk. Steering wheel straight but the car pulls. Uneven tire wear within months. Panels that no longer click shut like before. Any of these after an impact is a reason to measure.
What a structural diagnosis measures
Manufacturers publish frame reference data: distances between anchor points, rail angles, floor height, suspension tolerances. Computerized measuring compares the live chassis to spec and flags every millimeter off.
Why “beat it until it looks straight” is not enough
A poorly straightened frame compromises safety: crush zones were engineered to fold in sequence. If geometry is not back to factory, the next hit can behave badly. Insurers inspecting later can deny coverage if structural work looks informal.
Time and cost in Costa Rica
Structural straightening on a hydraulic bench typically takes 5–20 business days depending on severity, with costs from about ₡250,000. The written report matters as much as the repair — it proves the car is back in tolerance.
